Petra Bauer is an artist and filmmaker based in Stockholm, Sweden, who is interested in the role of moving images in the construction, presentation and representation of histories. Petra’s work demonstrates how moving images can be seen as a space where social and political negotiations can take place.
Petra has been commissioned by Collective to undertake a research-based project during the development phase of the City Observatory complex. She is currently researching women’s groups in Edinburgh, from charitable organisations to informal groups where women get together to share everyday duties as well as to change larger political structures. Through conversation Petra is building a map of collective political activity in the city exploring how this relates to twentieth century feminist initiatives.
Petra presented her work and interest in film as a political practice, as part of the School of Art’s Friday Lecture Series at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh.
