Exhibitions Satellites

Kathryn Elkin commonly works with performance, writing and video. For Collective’s Satellites Programme Kathryn presented a new video and installation, that explored the potentials for abstraction and misdirection in the combination of language, object, body and memory.

Mutatis Mutandis, the Latin exhibition title, means ‘changing (only) those things which need to be changed’. Narrated by a woman (the artist) the soundtrack is twinned with images of a still life being interacted with, and animated by, an anonymous body (or bodies) never fully visible throughout the film. The work enacts slippages between voice, body and object, with the vessels and other objects functioning as stand-ins for multiple ideas and body parts.
